One Year, One Thousand Headstones
Proud founders of the Veterans Headstone Restoration Project.
The Veterans Headstone Restoration Project is a 501(c)(3) community-funded mission committed to preserving the dignity and memory of those who served. Founded by a U.S. Marine, the project aims to restore 1,000 veterans’ headstones in a single year, ensuring that time and weather do not erase the names or stories of our nation’s heroes. Each restored marker honors not only military service, but the full weight of sacrifice including the unseen struggles many carried long after returning home. This work is about more than cleaning stone; it is about responsibility, gratitude, and remembrance. Through hands-on restoration and public support, we ensure these men and women are not reduced to silence or forgotten by time. Their names, their lives, and the weight they carried deserve to be seen, respected, and remembered.

OUR MISSION
Honor and Stone was founded from a moment of heartbreak that became a mission of restoration. During a visit to my father’s gravesite, I couldn’t find his headstone. What was once a black granite stone had been overtaken by years of weather, water damage, and lichen growth—so much so that it had turned completely white and unreadable. I felt devastated, as if my father’s memory itself had faded.
A kind cemetery attendant connected me with someone who specialized in headstone restoration. Through what felt like a small miracle, he restored my father’s headstone to its original beauty. In doing so, he restored more than just a monument—he restored honor to my father’s legacy and peace to my family.
That experience changed me. I set out to learn everything I could about gravestone cleaning, preservation, and care. Honor and Stone was born from that journey—a commitment to help others experience the same sense of reverence and renewal that meant so much to me.
